For all children who have just completed Yr 3 to members who have just completed Yr 6 at school
Junior – 30th July – 2nd August 2019, daily from 10am – 4pm
Mini and Junior Camp are run at Stonehall in Balcombe, the family estate of the Greenwood family who have kindly hosted this camp for many years. Many current members parents attended camp at Stonehall when Mrs Greenwood was the Principal Instructor. The whole Greenwood family are still very much involved in the camp, from leading the hacks to running the cross country sessions.
A typical day involves preparing your pony for the day and meeting with your instructor. This will be followed by a ridden activity in both the morning and the afternoon. Each session is different, and will include flatwork, jumping, cross country, gymkhanas and hacking out in the beautiful countryside. Lunch is provided for Junior participants. On sunny days everyone has the opportunity for a swim in the beautiful outdoor pool. There will also be some free time and the chance to do some badges or watch a demonstration. Past years demonstrations have included side saddle and police dogs in action.
The last day of Junior Camp is competition day, with Combined Training and clear round Cross Country.
Please remember no dogs are allowed on site over camp.
We would welcome a contribution of 2 x packets of biscuits on the first day.

13th August. Day 1 Arrival:
Please arrive no earlier than 9.45am and no later than 10am. Follow C&H signs which will take you through the Farm entrance. Follow the drive, which will take you up past a stable yard on your left, then pass through the gate onto the camp field. In the event of rain please DO NOT stop in this gateway as it will get boggy and lorries will start to get stuck. The lorry parking will be located on the left of the roped area.
Details of rides and activities will be listed on the caravan. The rides are grouped in colours. Once you know the ride colour, each member will be given a ribbon to put on their hat silk. Once you have had back protectors and hats checked you’ll be able to make your way, with pony, to the group within the pony lines. Please take haynets and water buckets over with you to your pony lines. If your pony is staying overnight you MUST be checked off and passport handed in. Please ensure ponies hind shoes are removed if they are staying.
Unless parents are staying to help in a specific, allocated role, please do drop off and settle your child and pony and feel free to leave.
The first ride will start at 10.30am. This will be an assessment morning where Instructors will check your child has been grouped correctly and establish if any changes need to be made.
10.30am – First Ride
12.00pm – Untack, hay and water ponies
12.15pm – Lunch and swimming
1.45pm – Tack up
2.00pm – Second ride
3.30pm – Ponies will be untacked and given water
3.35pm – Tack Cleaning/Badge
3.55pm – If staying the night ponies will be turned out all at the same time with an instructor
4pm – Finish
If your pony is staying, an instructor will meet you at the field gate at 10.00am to bring your ponies in each morning. This is to ensure no ponies are left on their own.
We do ask for help from parents that are intending on staying the day at Junior Camp. This includes:
- Parent ride representative who helps the instructor tack up (younger rides) and helps keep the day running to time. They will also distribute drinks and biscuits at break time and ensure their ‘ride area’ is tidy at the end of the day.
- Making cup cakes for lunch time
- Watching the pony lines at lunch time
- Pool Duty
- Kitchen helpers
The most important thing is that all the children enjoy their experience at Junior Camp. Please do ask if you need any additional assistance or are unsure about anything at all. Please come to the caravan and I will be able to help you.
If you require further information before hand please contact me at email@example.com
Looking forward to seeing you all on the 13th August!
